Cuttack,May 7: Commerce students are now eligible for teaching jobs, said a significant order passed by the Orissa High Court on Friday. Hearing a number of petitions from the candidates,Justice SK Panigrahi in his judgement said that the graduates and postgraduates from Commerce are eligible for teaching jobs. At the same time,the combinations of Communicative English and Economics of the commerce graduates and post graduates will be treated as two school subjects.The communicative English will be treated as English and the Economics subjects will be treated as Business Economics.Thus candidates with either graduate or postgraduate degree in Commerce can be appointed as Postgraduate Teachers(PGT) and Trained Graduate Teachers(TGT), read the order. At the same time, the High Court in his order said that the shortlisted candidates would have to qualify in the Computer Based Test(CBT) before the appointment, whichever is finalized by the School and Mass Education Department. Worth mentioning, the School and Mass Education Department had announced recruitment notice for the post of TGT and Telgu Language teacher in 2021 where the Commerce candidates were knocked out from the merit list for having no teaching subjects. As a result,all the job aspirants failed to be appointed as school teachers. Acting on it, a number of exempted candidate moved the Orissa High Court in this connection.
