Cuttack, Aug 1: In a move to enforce punctuality and discipline within the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), Commissioner Kirandeep Kaur Sahota has issued show-cause notices to 31 employees, including Joint Commissioner Barendra Mohanty (OAS), for repeatedly reporting late to duty.
This decisive action comes just days after Sahota took charge on July 23, and it signals her commitment to maintaining high standards of accountability within the civic body. In her notice, the Commissioner expressed her strong disapproval over the tardiness exhibited by the staff and warned that salaries could be withheld if they failed to provide justifiable reasons for their delays.
The employees, from a range of departments, have been given 24 hours to submit a written explanation. Failure to comply with the directive may lead to disciplinary actions, including the suspension of their salaries.
Among the employees cited in the notice are senior assistants, junior assistants, computer assistants, fee collectors, peons, sweepers, and electric helpers.
In her statement, Sahota emphasized that any form of negligence in duty would not be tolerated and that the administration would take strict action to ensure punctuality and efficiency in all operations. The move is seen as a step towards instilling discipline and ensuring that employees meet their responsibilities within the civic body.
The CMC Commissioner’s action has garnered attention, with many lauding the move as necessary for improving work culture and accountability in the municipal corporation.
