CM reviews rain, flash flood situation in five districts

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today reviewed the heavy rain and flash flood situation in Bolangir, Kalahandi, Boudh Sonepur and Kandhamal districts.

The Chief Minister interacted with the concerned Collectors through videoconferencing and enquired about their requirements.

It was revealed in the meeting that more than 10 lakh cusec of water will flow in Mohanadi on August 15 morning. Collectors of Khurda, Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh and Kendrapada have been alerted and advised to strengthen river bank patrolling.

Season’s first water will be released from the Hirakud dam on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued red warning for seven districts – Sundergarh, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Boudh, Sonepur, Nuapada, Jharsuguda – with extremely heavy rainfall forecast till Wednesday.

At least eight people have lost their lives due to rain and flood-related incidents in the State, said Special Relief Commissioner (SSRC) Bishnupada Sethi on Tuesday.
