Bhubaneswar, April 8: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday said that rapid industrial growth in Odisha will soon curb job-driven migration, positioning the state as a key employment hub in eastern India.
Addressing the inauguration of a major apparel manufacturing facility set up by Page Industries at Ramdaspur in Cuttack district, he noted that Odisha is entering a transformative phase where expanding local job opportunities are expected to bring migrant workers back home.
The newly launched unit, built with an investment of around ₹750 crore, is projected to provide employment to more than 5,800 youths. Foundation stones were also laid for another Page Industries facility in Bhubaneswar, involving an investment of ₹258 crore and expected to generate 3,500 jobs, along with a textile plant by MAS India Clothing Pvt Ltd.
Emphasising the importance of the textile and apparel sector, the Chief Minister said it holds strong employment potential with relatively lower capital requirements and contributes significantly to women’s empowerment.
He added that dedicated clusters are being developed in districts such as Khordha, Cuttack, and Ganjam.
Referring to the Textile Summit held in July last year, Majhi stated that investment proposals worth nearly ₹7,800 crore have already been received and are being implemented on a fast-track basis.
He underlined that industrialisation not only creates direct employment but also boosts MSMEs, startups, supply chains, and skill development. Projects worth about ₹41,000 crore inaugurated or initiated in Khordha district on the day, he said, mark a significant milestone in Odisha’s industrial progress.
According to the Chief Minister, these initiatives have already created around 60,000 job opportunities, generating renewed hope among the youth.
Majhi also highlighted efforts to establish apparel parks with plug-and-play infrastructure, including land, power, water, and transport facilities, to attract investors. The state is targeting textile investments worth ₹7,212 crore and the creation of 40,000 jobs in the sector.
