Keonjhar, Sep 13: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday launched the ‘Zero Accident Day’ campaign in Keonjhar district, calling for a unified effort to make Odisha an accident-free state.
The initiative, led by the state's Commerce and Transport Department, marks a significant step towards building a robust culture of road safety across the region.
To mark the occasion, the Chief Minister inaugurated a Zero Accident Selfie Point, flagged off road safety awareness chariots across all 13 blocks of Keonjhar, and launched a district-wide signature campaign to engage citizens in the movement.
He also felicitated individuals who have been actively promoting road safety awareness in the district.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Majhi emphasized that ensuring road safety is not just a government responsibility but a collective duty.
“Safety is not only the government’s responsibility. It is the collective responsibility of every individual. Our goal is to take the Zero Accident Day message to every city, village, and even household. Be aware yourself and make others aware,” he said.
Keonjhar is the first district in Odisha to formally implement the ‘Zero Accident Day’ campaign following its pilot success in Bhubaneswar. With technical support from IIT Madras, a 14-day comprehensive program has been rolled out in the district to develop preventive strategies and strengthen road safety mechanisms.
The Chief Minister said that the campaign reflects Odisha’s united resolve to reduce road accidents and save lives, transforming road safety from a policy issue into a grassroots people’s movement.
