Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today launched Sunetra, the flagship programme with a grand vision of preventing all avoidable blindness in the State during the Ama Gaon Ama Bikash (Our Village Our Development) programme.
Under the programme, the State Government aims at achieving the target of universal eye health care by 2023.
“People from all walks of life are included in this scheme. Irrespective of age, all the people get the benefits,” said Health and Family Welfare Secretary Pramod Meherda after the launching of the programme.
The State Government had pledged Rs 680 crore over a period of five years.
Under the programme, the State Government will conduct eye check-ups at every school of and if required, the operation will be done free of cost while free power glasses will be distributed to the students having vision problem. Critical eye surgery will also be conducted at appropriate hospital free of cost.
Similarly, the general public will also be provided eye care treatment free of cost. This will be a yearly affair.
