CM has directed to ensure purchase of paddy from all bonafide farmers: Swain

Bhubaneswar, Mar 19: A total 61.24 metric tonne paddy worth Rs 11,441 crore has been procured from the farmers and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has directed that if any member comes across the instance of failure of procurement agencies to deprive any farmer from selling his produce he should bring it to his notice. In such case proper investigation will be conducted and the paddy will be lifted, assured Food and Supplies Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain in the Assembly today. The paddy procurement process is on and will continue till March 31. The Chief Minster has asked to ensure that no registered and eligible farmer will face difficulty in selling paddy to the government, said Swain. Expressing dissatisfaction over the Minister's statement BJP MLAs walked out of the House. Till date the state government has procured 18 percent more paddy from farmers compared to the last Kharif season. The Minister also stated that 100 Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society (PACS) secretaries and other employees have been suspended for alleged negligence in paddy procurement. Besides, seven office bearers have been ousted.
