CM extends gratitude to people of Odisha for planting over 1.49 crore saplings on PM Modi’s 75th birthday

Bhubaneswar, Sept 18: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has extended heartfelt thanks to the people of Odisha for their enthusiastic participation in a record-breaking plantation drive held on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday. In a remarkable show of public involvement and environmental commitment, the state planted over 1.49 crore saplings in a single day- nearly double the initial target of 75 lakh.

Conceived as a green tribute to the Prime Minister, the drive witnessed massive participation from citizens, communities, and government departments across 71,924 locations throughout Odisha. The target of 75 lakh saplings was met by 1:33 PM, well before the day’s end, and by 5 PM, the number had surged past 1.49 crore.

Among the districts, Sundargarh led with 14,21,618 saplings, followed by Koraput with 11,01,624, and Keonjhar with 10,42,927.

Praising the collective effort, the Chief Minister said the overwhelming response not only reflects the people’s love and respect for the Prime Minister but also highlights Odisha’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability. He also lauded the efforts of the Forest, Environment, and Climate Change Department and all supporting agencies for ensuring the success of the campaign.
