Class VII student in Kandhamal dies after giving birth

G Udayagiri, Oct 7: A minor girl of Class VII in Odisha’s Kandhamal district reportedly died after giving birth to a child late last night. The unmarried mother was a student of a government residential school located in the Belghar area of the district. Sources said that, the minor girl was found conceived while she was residing in the hostel of the residential school. Subsequently, the Headmaster of the school registered a complaint with the Belghar police in this connection. Being informed the Child Welfare Committee managed to shelter her in Subhadra Mohtab Shelter Home. Meanwhile, she complained of labour pain for which she was admitted to the G Udayagiri Community Hospital. Despite the supervision of the gynaecologist she delivered a stillborn baby and later she succumbed to post-delivery haemorrhoids. Following this, a case has been registered and an investigation has been initiated by the police. On the other hand District Welfare Officer, Kandhamal has ordered a probe into the matter in order to ascertain, who impregnated the minor girl.
