Jantar Mantar: CJP leaders remain detained while Dhruv Rathee walks free

Top CJP figures remain detained following intense crackdowns

Three senior leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) continue to face preventive detention following intense weekend crackdowns in Delhi. Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das, and Ashutosh Ranka were held just before their planned demonstration demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Authorities intercepted the trio directly inside an Air India flight upon its arrival from Mumbai on Saturday. Delhi Police sources confirm no formal arrests have occurred yet. Officials produced the leaders before an Executive Magistrate at Delhi Cantonment under sections related to maintaining public peace. This heavy security response reflects growing political friction and heightened sensitivities leading into upcoming electoral cycles.

Dhruv Rathee Released

YouTuber Dhruv Rathee found himself detained earlier at his Gurugram residence but walked free early Sunday morning. Meanwhile, CJP’s legal head, Ratna Singh, confirmed her team remains stationed at the police station to monitor the magistrate proceedings and defend the detained leaders. Preventive detention laws allow authorities to hold individuals for up to 24 hours without a warrant to stop potential public order disruptions, subject to judicial safeguards.

Party workers refuse to back down despite the heavy clampdown. Supporters have called for another major gathering at Jantar Mantar to protest alleged voter list manipulations. Security forces remain on high alert across the capital city, deploying over 20,000 police and paramilitary personnel to secure sensitive areas. Officers barricaded key transit routes and set up checkpoints to prevent large assemblies. Officials temporarily shut down several Metro stations, cancelled train services, and restricted mobile internet within a four-kilometre radius of Kartavya Path. During Saturday's initial sweep, authorities detained nearly 3,000 citizens, though most were released later that evening.
