Childline and police stop minor girl's marriage in Sundargarh

Nuagaon, May 21: The Childline officials and police stopped a minor girl's marriage at Menamena village under Nuagaon block in Sundargarh. Hatibari police took the groom into custody. Sources said, family members of a 14-year-old minor girl had arranged her marriage with Sumant Singh of Gurundia village on May 19. The villagers counseled both parents to stop the marriage as the girl wasminor, but in-vain. Ultimately, they informed it to Child Welfare Office, Nuagaon, Disha Childline and Hatibari police. Childlne official and police rushed to Nuagaon and stopped the illegal marriage. At the same, police detained the goom Sumant. Subsequently, he was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board in Sundargarh, said an official of the Childline.
