Child marriage foiled in Ganjam

Berhampur, Nov 29: An attempt to marry off a minor girl by her parents has been foiled by child rights activists and government officials in Ganjam district, the police said today. Sunakhemundi block authorities stopped the ongoing child marriage in Lakhmi Mandir Sahi under Patapur police limits. After getting information, the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Archana Kunwar, Tehsildar Srinivas Behera, and Patapur police reached the spot and stopped the ongoing child marriage. According to sources, the authorities informed the families of the boy and girl that child marriage is a criminal offense. They also warned them about the penalties of the crime.
