Chhattisgarh closes 61 gates of Kalma barrage

Sambalpur, Oct 26: Chhattisgarh government has closed as many as 61 sluice gates of Kalma barrage situated in the upper catchment of the Mahananadi on Monday. Only five gates have been left open to exit water for the Hirakud reservoir at Sambalpur. Sources said, the Water Resources Department of Chhattisgarh has closed 61 gates of Kalma barrage due to withdrawal of the monsoon. Following this, as many as five gates release around 5100 cu-sec water downstream resulting 9945 cu-sec water into the Hirakud dam. Notably, water level in the Hirakud reservoir has reached 629.75 feet mark after the monsoon.
