New Delhi, May 12: In a tragic road accident, at least 13 people, including women and children, were killed after a trailer truck collided head-on with a truck on the Raipur-Balodabazar highway in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur.

As per reports, the mishap took place at around 11:00 to 11:30 p.m. last night near Bangoli village under the Kharora police limits when the victims were on their way home from a family event.

The Swaraj Mazda (bearing registration number CG 04 MQ 1259) was carrying relatives of Puneet Sahu from Chatod village. They had traveled to Bano village in Kharora to attend a function. On their way back, their vehicle collided head-on with a trailer truck (license plate JH 05 DP 7584) near Saragaon. The collision was so aghast that killed 13 people on the spot.

The victims included nine women, two girls, one boy, and a six-month-old baby. Many others were seriously injured.

District Collector Gaurav Singh confirmed the tragic accident, saying, "We got the information around midnight. The whole team immediately went to the scene and informed nearby hospitals. Thirteen people died, and about 11–12 others were hurt."

"After giving them basic medical care, we took the injured to Mekahara Hospital in Raipur for further treatment," said the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Lal Umed Singh.

He added, "Some people from Chatod village were traveling in a Swaraj Mazda to attend a Chhathi ceremony in Bano village. On their way back late at night, their vehicle was involved in a tragic accident near Bangoli village."

BJP MLA Anuj Sharma also expressed his deep sorrow over the incident.

"This is a tragic incident. A crash between a trailer and a Mazda vehicle in Bangoli has caused many deaths and injured several others. We are working with the authorities to make sure the victims receive proper treatment and their families get support," said BJP MLA Anuj Sharma.

The injured were first taken to the Community Health Center in Kharora and later sent to Raipur Medical College (Mekahara) for more advanced care.

Rescue operations were carried out quickly with the help of senior police and medical officials. The district authorities have started investigating the cause of the accident. Initial reports suggest that the crash happened because of high speed and possibly driver negligence.
