Rayagada, May 20: A man who is over 107 years old is serving cold drinking water to the commuters in Odisha’s Rayagada district. The man of charity is Chandan Nayak, a native of Kadamguda village under the Muniguda block limits. Sources said, weak and wrinkled Chandan eagerly wait for the summer season from his early youth, for serving drinking water to the commuters during the hot months of April, May and June. Right now, at the threshold of end of his life, he has continued water distribution to the people. It is why, he has managed to store pure drinking water in a pitcher placed on a wet-bed of sand under a tree at the village end, which he gives away to people passing by the road. Most significantly, he continues his service from around 10 AM till 4 PM despite the scorching sun, without any pause or rest. As per Chandan, he is a poverty stricken wager who lives on Rs 750 old age pension without being a burden to his family members. However, his penury has not affected his mission of service. According to the locals, Chandan used to arrange and distribute drinking water in the summer season since long years ago while there was less provision of drinking water in the locality. He was carrying water on shoulders with the help of bamboo lifts(Bhara), from the natural geysers, flowing far away in deep forest.
