Puri, May 15: Chandan Yatra, which is the longest festival observed at Jagannath temple at Puri, began today. Chandan Yatra commenced as a low key affair in the wake of Coronavirus pandemic this year. On the first 21 days, Lord Madanmohan, Rama, Krishna, Laxmi and Saraswati are taken in a procession from Jagannath Temple to the Narendra pond. Five Shivas known as Pancha Pandavas, namely Lokanath, Yameswar, Markandaya, Kapal Mochan and Nilakantha would also accompany Madanmohan to Narendra pond. Jagannath Temple administration has started its preparation to observe auspicious Akshaya Tritiya and Chandan Yatra inside the shrine premises. The rituals commence at around 4am as Dwarafita niti and the other rituals will be performed and completed by 12:30pm.
