Chandan Yatra dispute resolved after administration steps in

Puri, April 29: The dispute surrounding the Chandan Yatra rituals at the Shree Jagannath Temple has been resolved following the intervention of the temple administration. Authorities have sought a detailed report from the temple commander, and action will be taken based on its findings, informed Puri District Collector Dibya Jyoti Parida.

According to sources, the Chapa ritual could not be conducted during the day due to strong winds. Later, infighting among servitors led to the cancellation of the night ritual as well. In response, a high-level meeting was convened at the temple office under the chairmanship of the district collector to address the issue.

During the meeting, servitors assured that the Chapa Niti would be conducted in a disciplined and orderly manner in the coming days. The administration is currently awaiting the commander’s report before initiating further action.

Notably, on the ninth day of the Chandan Yatra, the deities failed to participate in the ritual boat ride at Narendra Pushkarini. The idols of Madanmohan, Ramakrishna and Panchapandava remained seated on the boat for a prolonged period as the ritual could not proceed.

The disruption was triggered by a dispute between Singhari Nijog and Sadu Suara Nijog, reportedly over restrictions on certain servitors boarding the ritual boat. Despite efforts by the administration, the issue could not be resolved immediately, leading to widespread disappointment among devotees, who were deprived of witnessing the ritual.

The administration has since stepped in to restore order, with assurances from servitors to prevent such incidents in the future.
