New Delhi/ Bhubaneswar, Feb 8: Bowing down to protests, the Centre has withdrawn the draft heritage bye-laws for Puri Srimandir today. Union Culture minister Prahalad Singh Patel has issued direction for withdrawal of notification for proposed Heritage Bye-laws for Srimandir.
Two separate delegations of BJD and BJP MPs, including Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan met Union Culture & Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel and demanded withdrawal of National Monuments Authority (NMA) draft notification for Puri Srimandir and other temples in the state.
The BJP MPs demanded personal intervention of Union Minister Patel to suspend the draft notification for Puri Srimandir by the NMA in view of the religious beliefs and sentiments of Odias and Hindus.
Similarly, a delegation of BJD MPs, including Bhartruhari Mahtab, Dr Sasmit Patra, Pinaki Misra, Amar Patnaik, Sujeet Kumar and Anubhav Mohanty, also met the Union Minister Culture demanding withdrawal of the NMA draft notification for Puri Srimandir.
