​​​​​​​Bhubaneswar, August 11: The Centre has sanctioned Rs 1,760.71 crore to Odisha under the National Health Mission (NHM) during the 2025-26 financial year, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

In a written reply to a question raised by BJP MP Pradeep Purohit, the minister said Odisha had received Rs 1,916.79 crore from the Centre under the NHM during 2024-25.

Jadhav clarified that public health and hospitals are primarily state subjects, and the responsibility for strengthening the public healthcare system—including infrastructure, healthcare manpower and service delivery—rests with the respective state governments and Union Territories.

However, under the NHM, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare provides technical and financial assistance to states and UTs, including Odisha, to strengthen their public healthcare systems.

The support is provided based on proposals submitted by the states through Programme Implementation Plans (PIPs). The Centre evaluates these proposals and approves financial and technical assistance through Records of Proceedings (RoPs), in accordance with prescribed norms and the availability of resources.
