Bhubaneswar, May 29: Dreaded criminals lodged in Odisha jails are operating their crime syndicates through mobile phones. May it be the case of Sk. Hyder’s flee, rampant use and parcel of narcotics, collecting ransom and organizing crimes from the jails. All these impossible things have been proved to be easier for the criminals just for a mobile phone. However, the prison authorities are in utter silence to address the problem that brings worries to the jail authorities, police and the common people at large. Who carries mobiles into the jail?, And it is how?, despite the intensified security scan and vigil. The higher authority should address the problem before it goes more vulnerable. Reports said at least 27 mobiles were seized from Jharapada special jail in Bhubaneswar recently. Most of the mobiles are used by high profile prisoners including political leaders, powerful officers, builders, police officers trapped by vigilance sleuth or criminals with furious crime history or gangster background. They take mobiles inside the jail by hint or dint in order to communicate with their kith and aides. Acting on the telephonic resources of gangster Sk. Hyder, he was frequently transferred from one jail to other. Ultimately, he slipped from jail custody by means of a cell phone provided by a jail official. Jharapada jail that houses most of the potential prisoners from the state has turned paradise for the powerful accused lodged in bigger economic offenses. As many as 27 android phones have been seized from Jharapada jail so far. A special squad had seized seven mobiles from Jharapada jail 15 days ago. Two more cell phones were seized those were concealed by the prisoners underground in its premises. One of the seized mobiles was being used by Gopalpur MLA Pradeep Panigrahi. As per the query of the squad, Panigrahi was interacting with his family and relatives by means of video call. It’s obviously clear that the Pathak duo might be using the same phone to talk with their family and aides. On the other hand, as many as 28 mobiles have been seized by the special squad from 86 jails so far that clearly indicates that use of mobile was more rampant before the commission of the special squad. That’s why most of the inmates in jail are reachable for one and all in the outer world.
