<strong>CBI arrests Income Tax officer on charges of corruption</strong>

Bhubaneswar, Sept 25: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday arrested an Income Tax Officer for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from a jeweller. The accused, identified as Suman Sundar Sahu, was detained earlier on Saturday for allegedly receiving a gold necklace and Rs 5 lakh cash from a jeweller as bribes. Following this, a raid was initiated by the CBI sleuths at Sahu’s residence in Bhubaneswar. Sources said that Sahu was intercepted by the CBI sleuths while receiving a gold necklace and Rs 5 lakh cash from the proprietor of Shanti Jewelers on Saturday. Subsequently, the team raided his rented house of Sahu to take account of his disproportionate assets. A case under different Sections of corruption was filed in this connection. Sahu has been taken into custody, said a CBI officer.
