Kolkata, June 19: A case has been filed in West Bengal against the makers of Kesari Chapter 2 following its OTT release, alleging distortion of historical facts related to India’s freedom struggle. The complaint, lodged by Ranjit Biswas, a resident of Sector 4, Nabapally, accuses the filmmakers of misrepresenting key revolutionary figures.
According to the complaint, a courtroom scene in the film referencing the Muzaffarpur conspiracy case inaccurately portrays revolutionaries Khudiram Bose and Barindra Kumar Ghosh. Biswas claims that the film identifies them incorrectly as “Khudiram Singh” and “Virendra Kumar” from Amritsar—an error that he says dishonors their legacy and misleads viewers. Both Bose and Ghosh were executed for their roles in the freedom movement, and Biswas argues that such factual inaccuracies are disrespectful and misleading.
He further alleged that the misrepresentation promotes misinformation and has the potential to incite public unrest. Based on his complaint, police have registered a case under Sections 352, 353(1), and 353(2) of the Indian Penal Code.
Kesari Chapter 2, directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, is centered around the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and stars Akshay Kumar in the lead, alongside R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday. The film was released in theaters on April 18 and is now available on OTT platforms.
