Bhubaneswar, Dec 3: With the gambling cases are on the rise, the Odisha government has resolved to impose hefty fine on the deliberate gamblers.

Instead of Rs 100 fine for minor cases of gambling and just a few thousands for cases involving huge amounts, the state is going to impose monetary fine ranging Rs 5,000-75,000.

With it, the Odisha Government eased the prosecution on gambling with no imprisonment to the accused. Under the newly introduced ‘Odisha Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2025’ in the State Legislative Assembly, jail term is going to be replaced by hefty fines amounting upto Rs 75,000.

The revised law removes the earlier provision of at least one to six months’ imprisonment for gambling. Instead, offenders can walk free by complying with the fine.

Previously, Rs 100 was the fine while one month jail term was the provision for gambling related offences.

Under the ‘Odisha Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2025’, a gambler can evade jail term by paying Rs 5,000 for minor case of gambling. On the other hand, up to Rs 75,000 will be imposed on the offenders for major gambling cases.
