Calcutta HC rejects Mamata govt’s plea, NHRC to investigate post-poll violence

Kolkata, June 21: The Calcutta High Court on Monday dismissed the West Bengal government’s plea for recalling the order that directed the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to probe into post-poll violence in the state. The High Court said that we do not see the need for recalling or modification of the June 18 order, in which it had directed the chairperson of the NHRC to form a panel to investigate alleged human rights violations after West Bengal Assembly election. The state government had appealed the High Court urging it to recall or modify its order.   A five-judge bench of the High Court dismissed the plea of the West Bengal government for recalling the order was passed hearing PIL s with regard to displacement of people in the state owing to post-poll violence.
