Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet today cleared proposal to procure 55 lakh metric tons of paddy in Kharif 2018-19 from the farmers. It will be equivalent to 37 lakh metric tons of rice.
The Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved the Food and Procurement Policy for Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2018-19 to regulate all aspects of paddy and rice procurement during the ensuing KMS.
“A tentative target of 37 lakh metric tonne (LMT) in terms of rice has been fixed. In terms of paddy this comes to around 55 LMT. There is no bar for procurement of any higer quantum if more paddy comes to mandis from registered farmers,” said Aditya Prasad Padhi after the meeting.
The Cabinet also approved the Odisha Agriculture and Food Production Service (Methods of Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Rules-2018 for creation of new posts in Agriculture Officers Service Cadre. Under the rule, recruitment will be made to posts like Chief District Agriculture Officer (CDAO), Agriculture District Officer (ADO) and Block Agriculture Officer (BAO).
The entry post to the cadre will be Assistant Agriculture Officer whereas other grades posts up to Additional Director of Agriculture will be promotional posts from among the feeder grade posts.
The Cabinet also gave its nod on a budgetary allocation of Rs 1,250 crore fund towards Ama Gaon Ama Vikas programme for the year 2018-19.
