Bhubaneswar: Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday urged upon people of the State not to get biased by anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests being resorted to by opposition parties in the country.
“The CAA ensures citizenship to Hindu, Jain, Sikh, Buddhist and Christian minorities who have taken refuge in Indian after being religiously persecuted in Islamic countries of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh. About 1.5 crore people will be assured of citizenship in India. Though it was mulled earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken the bold step to protect these neglected people,” Pradhan told a Press conference here.
Blaming the Congress for misguiding people over the CAA, the Union Minister said giving citizenship to religious persecuted people was earlier considered by Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.
Thanking people of Odisha for not getting biased by disturbing forces, Pradhan said the BJP will begin a State-level workshop to make people understand the purpose of the CAA. He said the party would reach out to one crore people in the State.
“People have right to raise voice and they don’t have right to damage public property. They should understand the real purposed of the CAA,” said Pradhan.
