Bhubaneswar/Cuttack, Sept 30: In light of the anticipated heavy rush during Durga Puja celebrations, the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) has announced the suspension of bus services across all routes in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack after 2 PM. The decision, issued under directives from the Commissionerate Police, aims to ease congestion and ensure public safety during the festive period.
CRUT officials stated that bus services will remain suspended until the completion of idol immersion (Dashami Visarjan), as large gatherings are expected near major Puja pandals. The authorities have identified key roads that are likely to witness significant crowd movement and traffic pressure during the celebrations.
Traffic chaos grips Capital on Saptami evening
Devotees in the capital city faced severe traffic congestion on Saptami evening as they stepped out for darshan at various Puja pandals. Despite restrictions on heavy vehicles, which slightly eased movement on NH-16, traffic management on Cuttack Road and Janpath remained a challenge.
Police personnel were seen struggling to control the overwhelming flow of vehicles, with several traffic management strategies proving ineffective. Long queues of cars and two-wheelers stretched across major roads, leaving commuters stranded for hours.
Commuters reported that crossing the stretch from Rasulgarh to Vani Vihar took over 30 minutes due to gridlock. The traffic snarls caused significant inconvenience, with devotees visibly frustrated in the jam-packed streets.
Authorities have urged the public to plan their travel accordingly and cooperate with traffic and police personnel to ensure a smooth and safe celebration during the remaining days of the festival.
