New Delhi, May 12: Police resorted to mild lathicharge during the ongoing demolition drive in Delhi`s Madanpur Khadar area on Thursday protesters pelted stones at police force. Police also detained Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan, who reached the spot to extend his support to the people, as a preventive measure. The situation turned volatile soon after he was detained despite the people resisting it and resorting to stone pelting. The police had to use force to disperse the crowd. Residents were seen raising slogans against the police, which is providing security to the civic body in the demolition drive. The civic body had on Wednesday carried out demolition drives in the city's Najafgarh, Dwarka and Lodhi Colony. As per latest reports, the police have cordoned off the entire area, while some stone pelters were also detained.
