Bhubaneswar, Mar 13: The ongoing Budget Session of Odisha Assembly may be suspended due to Coronavirus outbreak.
Government Chief Whip Pramila Mallick moved a proposal today to suspend the business of the house till March 30 as a precautionary measure to combat the COVID-19.
Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLAs Debi Prasad Mishra, Amar Prasad Satpathy and Pradeep Maharathy supported the proposal.
While Congress legislature party leader Narasingha Mishra, Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati supported the proposal citing it as a global threat, Opposition leader Pradipta Naik, Deputy Leader of Opposition Bishnu Sethi, Opposition Chief Whip Mohan Chandra Majhi and senior BJP MLA Jaya Narayan Mishra opposed the motion.
“When the biggest democratic institution Parliament is going on, the State Assembly should continue its business without interruption as nobody has been tested COVID-19 positive in the state,” said Naik opposing the move.
