Brown sugar worth Rs 25 lakh seized in Balasore, Rs 11 lakh in Puri

Balasore/Puri, Jan 23: Brown sugar worth Rs 25 lakh was seized in Balasore district on Saturday. However, the peddler managed to flee from the spot. Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted raids in Jhadeswarpur slum under Jaleswar police limits but in-vain. While returning from the slum, the team saw a bag stashed in sand under suspicious circumstances. Police seized the bag and found 250 gm brown sugar worth around Rs 25 lakh was hid in it. In another case, excise department sleuths seized brown sugar worth 11 lakh from two peddlers in the district. Brown sugar weighing 30 gm was seized from Purnachandra Sahu of Haripur village under Pipili police limits and 80 from the possession of Ramachandra Behera of Sebak Sahi under Delang police limits. Both have been forwarded to court following their arrest. Estimated value of the seized contraband would be worth around Rs 11 lakh.
