Puri, April 4: A joint team of Special Task Force of the Odisha Crime Branch and Baseli Sahi police in Puri have seized a huge cache of brown sugar and arrested two persons in this connection late last night.
Acting on a tip-off regarding the smuggling of brown sugar, the joint team conducted a raid at a specific location and recovered around 110 grams of brown sugar.
Thereafter, the officials arrested the two accused including a minor boy and one named Sarbeswar Behera of Diwa village in Khordha for possessing the banned substance.
The estimated worth of the seized contrabrand is over Rs 11 lakh.
The officials have also seized Rs 11,000 in cash, two bikes, and six mobile phones from the possession of the accused.
If reports are to be believed, the accused duo was often indulged in the smuggling of brown sugar in Puri.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain other details, said a police official.
