Brown sugar racket busted in Bhubaneswar; three, including lady mafia, arrested

Bhubaneswar, Oct 17: In a breakthrough against narcotics smuggling, the Commissionerate Police has busted a brown sugar racket in Bhubaneswar, arresting three persons, including a woman alleged to be the kingpin of the operation.

Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted the suspects’ movement in the Jatani area of Khurdha district and seized a substantial quantity of contraband along with valuables.

According to Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh, the operation led to the recovery of 555 grams of brown sugar, valued at over Rs 60 lakh in the illicit market.

In addition to the narcotics, police also seized two cars, as well as gold and silver ornaments believed to have been acquired through illegal means.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused were part of an organized network involved in smuggling and distribution of brown sugar across Bhubaneswar and nearby regions. The woman allegedly played a central role in managing the trade and finances of the racket.

Police have launched further investigations to trace other members of the syndicate and identify their supply sources.

Commissioner Singh commended the team for the swift and coordinated action that led to the bust.
