Bringing Hirakud to life: New tourism projects take shape

Bhubaneswar, Oct 9: Odisha Development Commissioner Anu Garg chaired a review meeting to discuss the progress of new tourism projects planned for the Hirakud region under the Central Government’s Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme.

Senior officials from the state government and the Tourism Department attended the meeting.

During the session, the Tourism Department shared an overview of the Hirakud Master Plan, explaining the upcoming projects, the clearances needed, and preparations underway.

One of the highlights discussed was the Water and Light Symphony, which will showcase the story of the Mahanadi River and the making of the Hirakud Dam. The project aims to celebrate how the dam turned a long-cherished dream into reality and how the Mahanadi continues to be a lifeline for the people of Odisha. The Odisha Construction Corporation (OCC) was asked to ensure that work moves ahead quickly and efficiently.

The team also reviewed plans for the Dam Museum, which will take visitors on a journey through time — from the days before the dam was built, through the struggles with floods and famines, to the vision and creation of the Hirakud Dam, and the transformation that followed. The museum will include interactive experiences, AR/VR exhibits, and hands-on displays to make learning engaging and memorable for visitors.
