Bhawanipatna, Oct 28: Hectares of farmlands were washed away following a breach in the south canal embankment of Indravati in Kalampur block of Kalahandi district today.
According to reports, a 10-metre breach in the embankment of Indravati South Canal has flooded hectares of farmland in the block. Crops in acres of farmland have been submerged in the water. Villagers have blamed the negligence of Indravati South Canal authorities behind the mishap and alleged that such incidents had also occurred in the past.
On getting information, Assistant Engineer and Junior Engineer from Mukhiguda reached the spot to take stock of the situation.
Notably, several acres of farmlands had been inundated earlier in July this year following a breach in the Indravati Mega lift canal bund near Majhiguda under Koksara block.
