Bhubaneswar, May 20: A total of 2,14,878 voters are expected to cast their votes at 279 booths for the by-election to the Brajrajnagar Assembly constituency that will be held on May 31.
Chief Electoral Officer Sushil Kumar Lohani today informed that a total of 14 persons had filed their nominations. However, three of them had withdrawn their names from the by-poll leaving 11 candidates contesting for the seat.
Lohani also informed that 319 ballot units, 319 control units, and 419 VVPATs have been made available for the by-poll. A total of 1396 polling personnel are to participate in the polls. They will disperse from Jharsuguda Engineering School which is the collection centre and the location of the strong room.
Strict enforcement measures have been adopted by both the police and excise department as three companies of central paramilitary force are to be deployed at Brajarajnagar for the smooth conduct of polling. A helpline number 1950 has also been issued for the assistance of citizens.
The voting for the bypoll is to be held on May 31, between 7 am to 6 pm while the counting of votes and declaration of results will be on June 3.
Notably, the by-poll for the Brajarajnagar constituency was necessitated after the demise of BJD legislator Kishore Kumar Mohanty. Mohanty had passed away on December 30 after suffering from heart stroke.
