BMC to step ahead for Bio mining at Bhuasuni soon

Bhubaneswar, 20th April: Immediate steps have been taken by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to go ahead with commencing of bio- mining activities at Bhuasuni. A meeting held today between Mayor, BMC Sulochana Das and MLA Jatani Suresh Chandra Routray, Sarpanch of the Gram Panchayat Tapan Kumar Chakrabarti along with other Senior officials of BMC and few members of the village on commencement of the work on an auspicious day i.e. Akshay Tritia on 3rd May, 2022. Bio-mining is a process of reclaiming the land utilised as a waste dumpsite for several years as per MSW (management of solid waste) Rules 2016, CPCB (Central Pollution control Board) 2019 guidelines and other applicable rules and regulations. The project broadly involves scientific management of dumped waste by excavating the same from the heap and segregate into various category i.e. compost formed on account of bio-degradation of organic waste over a period of time to be utilised for farming, RDF to be utilised by cement units and non-dangerous inert waste to be utilised as landfills for low lying areas said Sri Suvendu Kumar Sahoo, Deputy Commissioner, Sanitation, BMC. Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation executed the Agreement with the Selected Agency i.e. a Joint Venture between M/s Jagruti Welfare Organisation and M/s Jan Adhar Seva Bhavi Sanstha on 23rd February 2022. In the initial phases of the contract period, the Agency is required to complete all the ancillary activities such as procurement of machinery, construction of site office, testing and survey works. The agency as on date has completed testing of ambient air quality, ground water condition & soil condition and has also initiated procurement of requisite machines & equipment’s as per terms of agreement, told Mayor Das. The total expected quantity of legacy waste dumped at Bhuasuni is 16 Lakhs Metric tonne and the Agency shall process at least 2000 Metric tonnes of waste on daily basis and complete the project in 36 months. Capital city is moving towards a go green initiative through its manifold initiatives like ‘Mu Safaiwala’ campaign, cycle day, functioning of MCC and MRF (micro composting centre and material recovery facilities) are gaining ground with active participation of communities and citizens at large.
