Bhubaneswar, Sept 24: The Unit - I market in capital city of Odisha is going to get a new look with construction of a multi-storey market complex, said Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange on Saturday. "The tender for a multi-storey market complex in Unit - I market will be floated soon. A detailed project report has been prepared in this regard," said Kulange. Illegal encroachment has stood as a major obstacle before the project. However, the BMC has decided to construct the new building after eviction of old and unauthorized shops in the proposed site, said a senior official of the BMC. Shops will be redistributed to authorised shopkeepers after construction of the new building. The vegetable market adjoining to it will also be shifted to the proposed site, the official said. According to reports, the BMC had planned the project around 10 years ago; however, no initiative has been taken in this regard. Kulange has taken the task to complete the long-pending project. Unit-I Market Sangha president Gayadhar Swain said construction of the proposed building will give hassle free shopping experience to customers. We are hearing about the project for a long time, but no initiative has been taken for implementation of it, he added.
