BMC reaches out to market associations through Sampark outreach programme

Bhubaneswar, Sep 10: As part of its endeavor to reach out to all sections of the Society in its fight against COVID, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation today organised its Sampark Abhiyan Mega Outreach Programme at the Unit 2 Market Building in association with the Central Market Association today evening.

The programme was attended by Parul Patawari IAS, Spl. Addl. Commissioner BMC, Subrat Panda, Jt. Secretary, Water Resources & Sr. Supervising Officer to BMC, Harish Chandra Nayak, Addl. Commissioner, BDA and Lilan Sahoo, Asst. Commissioner BMC. Coining the Unit 2 Market Building as the heart of the city, the Senior Officers present sought the co-operation of Members of the Market Association as well as the visiting public to join BMC’s fight against COVID-19 by ensuring all possible adherence to COVID-19 Guidelines in Unit 2 Market Building by both Vendors and Customers alike.

Speaking on the occasion, Parul Patawari IAS stressed on the need for Shopkeepers to invariably following the Pancha Sutras i.e. Barricading around shop and floor markings (Social Distancing), Keeping Sanitizers/Soap water (Hand Hygiene), No Mask No Goods – every shopkeeper to put a Board, Maintaining a Customer Register and Use of Mask and gloves by the Shopkeeper (Sanitize Shop Regularly).

The above Pancha Sutras shall have to be inculcated in the minds if each one around in order to help us coast through the COVID pandemic. “We will provide all possible support to the vendors of Market Building for developing it as a model market for COVID-19 compliance in all of Odisha” said Patawari who has been recently posted in BMC on special COVID duty by the Govt. Of Odisha, after her successful stint in Ganjam.

Ajit Mohanty, Vice President & Sisir Panda, Secretary for Central Market Association thanked the officials of BMC for reaching out to the traders of Unit 2 Market Building through the novel ‘Sampark Abhiyan’ and assured all possible support to BMC from the Vendors. They also thanked BMC for conducting regular test camps as well as proper sanitization in the Market in order to ensure the safety and well being of the citizens of Bhubaneswar.

Ansuman Rath, Zonal Dy Commissioner, BMC South East Zone thanked the Businessmen as well as the citizens alike for their unstinted support to BMC during these testing times. “BMC has always tried to build community participation through the stakeholders from all sections of the society. These Sampark Programmes will help in propagation of the message of BMC towards winning this continued battle against COVID” quoted Rath.

Sachetak Members of Ward No. 40 and Volunteers of Jai Odisha coordinated the above programme which was attended by more than 100 Businessmen from Market Building.

Finally, Lilan Sahoo, Asst Commissioner delivered the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude on behalf of BMC to everyone present to have made the Sampark Programmes in the city an effective medium for communication between the administration and citizens.
