BMC officials attacked during eviction in Berhampur

Berhampur, Dec 7: Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials have been attacked during an eviction drive conducted at Lanjipalli area in Ganjam district on Tuesday. Mobs also pelted stones at police protesting the eviction process. Sources said, the BMC Enforcement team led by Enforcement Officer, Tarun Kant was conducting an eviction drive in Deepa Sahi of Lanjipalli area in the afternoon. Reacting to it, the residents started pelting stones at the BMC team. They also broke the excavator which was engaged in removing illegal encroachment. Being informed, BNPur police rushed to the spot to calm down the irate residents. However, the mob also pelted stones and boulders on the police force. Consequently, a platoon of police force led by Sub Divisional Police Officer, Bishnu Prashad Pati, and BNPur Inspector In-Charge Ram Kumar Murmu has been deployed on the spot to control the situation. At the same time, police have carried a flag march in the locality in order to maintain peace in and around the vicinity. However, police have intensified security in the area anticipating further law and order situation, said police.
