Bhubaneswar: Based on Mumbai model, for the first time Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched drive-in Covid-19 vaccination from today.

With online bookings starting today, it has been planned to vaccinate 400 people in their own vehicles on the first day.

BMC is following the footsteps of Brihan Mumbai Corporation.

The system has been introduced for the people who are waiting for a second dose of vaccine at a government or private hospital.

The residents are advised to wait inside the vehicles till their turn.

A total of 400 slots are available for today. The slot booking will start at 5pm.

Citizens will have to drive into the parking lot of Esplanade Mall as per the slots booked by them.

The drive-in vaccination facility has been made available for those above 45-year-age.

After the vaccination over, they have to wait outside the parking lot for 30 minutes for observation.

They are also being requested to show the message and verification slips of the first dose, BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary said.

“This vaccination program has been launched on a pilot basis and we are planning to open similar centres after analysing the efficacy of the Esplanade drive-in programme,” BMC commissioner added.
