BLO Suspended in Odisha's Kalahandi Over Alleged Dereliction of Duty During Voter Roll Revision

Bhawanipatna, June 22: A Booth Level Officer (BLO) engaged in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Kalahandi district has been suspended on charges of alleged negligence in duty.

The suspended official, Madhusudan Behera, is a teacher at Boringpadar Upper Primary School under Narla block and had been assigned BLO responsibilities for the electoral roll revision exercise.

According to official sources, the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) and the Tahsildar of Narla had repeatedly directed Behera to discharge his assigned duties and remain available at his designated place of work. He was reportedly contacted several times over the phone and instructed to carry out the voter list revision work with due diligence.

However, despite repeated reminders and warnings, Behera allegedly failed to perform his responsibilities and remained absent from duty, officials said.

Taking serious note of the matter, Kalahandi Collector Sachin Pawar ordered disciplinary action against the official. Acting on the Collector’s directive, the Narla Tahsildar issued a suspension order on Monday.

District administration officials emphasized that negligence in duties related to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls would not be tolerated. They warned that stringent action would be taken against any personnel found neglecting responsibilities associated with the crucial electoral exercise being undertaken ahead of future elections.
