Chennai, July 1: A powerful explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Sivakasi claimed the lives of at least five workers, including two women, on Tuesday, according to police reports.
The sudden blast triggered a massive fire that engulfed the entire unit, leaving several others injured. Thick plumes of smoke, accompanied by the sound of bursting crackers, were visible from a considerable distance.
Emergency responders, including police and fire service personnel, rushed to the scene and transported the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment. Further investigations are underway to determine the cause of the explosion.
