Berhampur, June 5: A patient with symptoms of black fungus has been detected in MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. His sample has been sent for microbiology culture and it will take six days to get the actual report, MKCG Superintendent Prof.Dr. Santosh Kumar Mishra said. The patient has been admitted to the ENT (eye) department of the hospital. Following which, a meeting of the Black Fungus Committee was held for treatment procedure of the deadly disease, said Mishra. Earlier, a black fungus patient detected here was shifted to the AIIMS. Amid the rising cases of Mucormycosis or Black Fungus among Covid-19 patients in Odisha, a seven-member state level committee had been constituted earlier to monitor such cases. Black fungus is a fungal infection that mainly affects people who are on medication for other health problems that reduce their ability to fight environmental pathogens.
