BJP will implement Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand if retains power: CM Dhami

Khatima, Feb 12: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday said that if his party BJP retains power after the assembly polls, it will implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state. “Soon after its swearing-in, the new BJP government will form a panel that will prepare a draft of the Uniform Civil Code for the state,” Dhami said in a press conference in Khatima. The panel will include stakeholders, jurists, social workers, knowledgeable persons who will prepare the draft, he added. This UCC will provide the same laws regarding marriages, divorce, land-property and inheritance for all people of the state, irrespective of their faith that will boost equal rights for everyone in the state, he said. Implementation of UCC will enhance social harmony, boost gender justice, strengthen women empowerment and help protect the extraordinary cultural-spiritual identity and environment of the state, he further said.
