Jharsuguda, May 8: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday named former MLA Radharani Panda as the party’s candidate for the by-election to the Brajrajnagar Assembly constituency in Jharsuguda district.
Earlier, the Congress party had decided to field former speaker and Minister Kishore Chandra Patel in the by-poll.
However, the ruling BJD has not declared the party’s candidate for the by-poll. If reports are to be believed, discussions are on to field late Kishore Mohanty’s wife to derive sympathy vote.
Notably, the sad demise of sitting Brajrajnagar MLA Kishore Mohanty necessitated the by-poll. The by-elections to the Brajrajnagar Assembly seat will be held on May 31. The counting of votes and declaration of results is scheduled for June 3.
