Bhubaneswar: The BJP Odisha unit today decided to launch a signature campaign to create awareness about the Ayushman Bharat, after the State Government refused to adopt the Central scheme.
Party State unit president Basant Panda today said in a press conference that the party will launch signature campaign from September 30 to October 7 to create awareness about Ayushman Bharat scheme as Odisha Government is not implementing the programme for mere political reasons.
“The State Government here is not implementing the Central scheme for mere political reasons. We will make people aware about the scheme and collect signatures of one crore people between September 30 and October 7,” said Panda.
The development came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party national president Amit Shah took on the Naveen Government recently for rejecting the scheme.
The Central scheme aims to provide Rs 5 lakh health insurance coverage per family annually to more than 10 crore poor households across the country.
The State Government argued that the State’s scheme Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana covers an extra 50 lakh people which the Centre’s scheme does not provide for. While the State provides Rs 7 lakh for women under the BSKY the Central scheme assures only Rs 5 lakh.
