Patkura: Ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate Sabitri Agarwalla won the Patkura Assembly election by a margin of 17,920 votes. While she was polled 96,017 votes Bijoy Mohapatra of BJP got 78,097 votes.
Election to the politically-important Assembly segment was held on July 20.
The victory in Patkura took BJD’s tally in the 147-member Odisha Assembly to 113.
The Patkura seat, under Kendrapara Lok Sabha constituency, was scheduled to go to polls on April 29, the last phase of the four-phase simultaneous elections in the State. But it was postponed twice following death of BJD candidate, Bed Prakash on April 20 and later in the aftermath of Cyclone Fani that hit Odisha on May 3 that caused massive destruction in coastal parts of the State.
Following the death of Bed Prakash, the BJD fielded his widow Sabitri Agarwalla as its candidate for the segment.
