Bhubaneswar, May 19:In a significant move aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and boosting economic growth in southern Odisha, BJD Member of Parliament Dr. Sasmit Patra held a meeting with the Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, to discuss the development of the existing Rangeilunda airstrip in Ganjam district.
During the meeting, Dr. Patra submitted a detailed proposal advocating the transformation of the current airstrip into a full-fledged commercial airport, which he suggested should be named“Brahmapur Airport”. The MP highlighted the strategic importance of such a development, emphasizing that an operational commercial airport in Brahmapur would significantly improve connectivity for business, tourism, and trade in the region.
Dr. Patra underlined that the upgraded airport would not only serve the needs of Ganjam district but also benefit neighboring districts, contributing to overall regional development. He also stressed that improved air connectivity could attract investment, promote tourism, and generate employment opportunities, fostering socio-economic growth in southern Odisha.
The Union Minister, Naidu, reportedly acknowledged the proposal and assured that the Ministry of Civil Aviation would examine the feasibility of the project, including aspects related to infrastructure requirements, air traffic potential, and economic viability.
The proposed development of the Rangeilunda airstrip into Brahmapur Airport is seen as a crucial step in strengthening Odisha’s aviation infrastructure and ensuring better air connectivity for both domestic and potential international flights in the future.
