BJD files police complaint over AI-generated deepfake videos targeting Sujata Rout Karthikeyan

Bhubaneswar, Oct 19: The Opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) lodged a police complaint alleging that AI-generated deepfake videos and voice-cloned content targeting senior party leader and former bureaucrat Sujata Rout Karthikeyan were circulated through Instagram and Facebook.

The party condemned the alleged circulation of fabricated videos, describing them as defamatory and intended to damage the leader’s reputation.

BJD, in the complaint filed at Capital Police Station in Bhubaneswar, demanded a comprehensive investigation and strict legal action against those responsible.

The complaint was filed against the unidentified operators of social media accounts using the name “Odianka Chhata” on Instagram and Facebook.

According to the complaint, videos allegedly uploaded on October 18 were created using artificial intelligence and voice-cloning technology to spread fabricated claims about Karthikeyan.

One of the videos allegedly depicted her threatening the principal of Kendrapara Autonomous College over student union elections.

The party urged police to identify those operating the social media accounts, preserve relevant digital evidence and conduct a forensic examination of the videos to verify their authenticity and trace their origin.
