Bhubaneswar, Oct 11: Student election tensions took a violent turn in Pipili on Sunday, leaving a presidential candidate of Bhubaneswar’s BJB Autonomous College injured in a clash between two groups.
The incident reportedly erupted during a post-campaign feast following an objection to the preparation of non-vegetarian food near a temple.
A candidate for the post of student union president at BJB Autonomous College, identified as Aryan Mohapatra, was injured in a clash between two groups in Pipili on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
Aryan was initially admitted to Pipili Hospital for treatment before being referred to Capital Hospital for further medical care.
According to reports, the incident took place during a gathering organised by Aryan and his supporters following an election campaign in the Pipili area. After campaigning, the group reportedly organised a feast at a nearby ground, where more than 15 students were present.
Tension reportedly erupted when a BJB College student from Pipili arrived at the venue with five to six associates. They allegedly objected to the preparation of non-vegetarian food near the premises of the nearby Nilakantheswar Temple.

The objection triggered a heated argument between the two groups, which soon escalated into a physical confrontation. During the clash, Aryan sustained a head injury and was rushed to Pipili Hospital for immediate treatment. He was later shifted to Capital Hospital for further medical attention.
Meanwhile, Pipili police have registered a case in connection with the incident and formed two teams to identify and apprehend those involved.
